Abstract

This review focuses on the various pharmacological activities and properties possessed by the medicinal plants in general as well as the advantages and disadvantages of herbal medicines. Plants have been the traditional source of raw materials for medicines since long time. These medicinal properties are due to their content known as phytochemicals. The basic uses of plants in medicine will continue in the coming future as a source of therapeutic agents and as basic raw material for cosmetics, perfumes and food industries.
