Instructions for Authors

Chem Bio Molecules (CBM) is an international, peer-reviewed journal devoted to publishing high-quality research at the interface of chemistry and biology. The journal welcomes original and significant studies that integrate chemical principles, molecular sciences, biological systems, and biomedical applications. JCBM provides a platform for interdisciplinary research spanning chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, molecular medicine, biomolecules, biotechnology, nanotechnology, structural biology, molecular genetics, enzyme engineering, bioconjugation, molecular biophysics, and related areas.

Manuscripts submitted to the journal should present a clear scientific rationale, appropriate experimental, computational, or theoretical methodology, and results that contribute meaningfully to knowledge and understanding in the relevant field.

Types of Articles

Original Research Articles

Original Research Articles should report substantial and novel findings arising from experimental, computational, theoretical, or interdisciplinary research. A Research Article should normally include a title, abstract, keywords, introduction, Materials and Methods or Experimental Section, results, discussion, conclusions, Data Availability Statement where applicable, author contributions, funding statement, conflict of interest statement, acknowledgements where applicable, references, tables, and figures. The Results and Discussion sections may be combined when appropriate for the nature of the study.

Review Articles

Review Articles should provide comprehensive, critical, and balanced assessments of significant developments in a particular area of chemistry–biology research. Reviews should not merely summarize previously published literature but should critically examine important developments, unresolved questions, methodological limitations, emerging opportunities, and future directions. Authors are encouraged to contact the Editorial Office before submitting an unsolicited Review Article.

Mini-Reviews and Perspectives

Mini-Reviews and Perspectives should provide concise and authoritative discussions of emerging topics, recent breakthroughs, innovative methodologies, new concepts, or rapidly developing areas of chemistry, biology, molecular science, or related interdisciplinary research.

Short Communications

Short Communications should report important preliminary, focused, or time-sensitive findings that can be presented concisely and that are considered sufficiently significant to warrant rapid communication to the scientific community.

Methodology and Technical Articles

The journal welcomes articles describing innovative experimental, analytical, computational, bioinformatic, or other technical methods that have clear applications in chemistry, biology, molecular science, or related interdisciplinary areas. Such articles should provide sufficient methodological detail to enable appropriate evaluation and, where applicable, reproducibility.

Letters and Commentaries

Letters and Commentaries may address important scientific developments, methodological issues, emerging concepts, observations, or matters of broad interest to the readership of the journal. Such contributions should be concise, focused, scientifically reasoned, and relevant to the journal's scope.

Scope of the Journal

Journal of Chem Bio Molecules welcomes interdisciplinary research in a broad range of areas at the interface of chemistry, biology, and molecular sciences. These areas include, but are not limited to, chemical biology, molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, molecular medicine, drug discovery and molecular therapeutics, enzyme engineering, protein chemistry, bioconjugation and chemical probes, biomacromolecules, structural biology, molecular biophysics, molecular genetics, nanotechnology and nanobiotechnology, bioorganic chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, computational chemistry and biology, molecular modelling and molecular dynamics, chemoinformatics and bioinformatics, synthetic biology, biotechnology, natural products and bioactive molecules, molecular diagnostics, chemical sensors and biosensors, molecular materials, biomaterials, biointerfaces, chemical approaches to disease mechanisms, molecular mechanisms of drug action, chemistry of therapeutically relevant biomolecules, and the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in chemistry and biology.

The journal also welcomes interdisciplinary chemistry–biology approaches to emerging biomedical and technological challenges. Manuscripts that do not demonstrate a meaningful connection with chemistry and biological or molecular sciences may be considered outside the primary scope of the journal.

General Submission Requirements

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through the journal's designated submission system or in accordance with the submission instructions provided by the Editorial Office. Submission of a manuscript implies that the work has not been published previously, except where prior dissemination is permitted, such as an acceptable conference abstract or preprint in accordance with journal policy. The manuscript must not be under consideration by another journal, and all authors must have approved the submitted version and agreed to its submission to Journal of Chem Bio Molecules.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work complies with applicable ethical, legal, and research-integrity requirements. The manuscript should contain sufficient information to permit appropriate scientific assessment of the work. Simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to more than one journal is not permitted.

Structure of the Manuscript

Title Page

The title page should contain the full manuscript title, a short running title not exceeding 60 characters, the full names of all authors, and their institutional affiliations. Corresponding author information must include the full name, email address, telephone number, and complete postal address. ORCID identifiers are strongly recommended for all authors.

Abstract and Keywords

The abstract should provide a concise and informative summary of the study, with a recommended length of 250–300 words. Structured abstracts are encouraged for original research articles and should generally include the following subheadings: Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. Authors should provide 4–8 keywords immediately following the abstract to facilitate indexing and retrieval.

Main Text

Original Research Articles should generally be organized under the following headings: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements, Funding Information, Conflict of Interest Statement, Author Contributions, and References.

The Introduction should clearly describe the scientific background of the study, current knowledge and existing research gaps, the rationale and significance of the investigation, and the study objectives or hypotheses.

The Materials and Methods section should provide sufficient detail to ensure reproducibility of the study. Authors should include information regarding experimental design, materials and reagents, instruments and analytical procedures, statistical analyses, software and computational tools used, and ethical approval and informed consent where applicable. For studies involving human participants or experimental animals, authors must provide the name of the approving ethics committee together with the approval number and confirmation of informed consent where relevant.

The Results section should present findings clearly, logically, and concisely using appropriate tables, figures, graphs, and statistical analyses. Unnecessary duplication of data between tables and figures should be avoided.

The Discussion should critically interpret the findings in relation to previously published literature, scientific and clinical significance, mechanistic insights, strengths and limitations of the study, and future research directions.

The Conclusion should summarize the principal findings of the study and highlight their scientific relevance and potential applications.

Tables and Figures

Tables should be editable and numbered consecutively in the order of citation within the text. Each table should include a concise and descriptive title placed above the table, while explanatory notes and abbreviations should be provided as footnotes below the table.

Figures should be of high quality with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Acceptable file formats include TIFF, JPEG, PNG, and EPS. Each figure must be accompanied by a clear and descriptive legend.

Graphical Abstract

Submission of a graphical abstract is optional but strongly encouraged. The graphical abstract should visually summarize the principal findings or conceptual framework of the study using minimal text and clear scientific illustrations.

Abbreviations and Units

All abbreviations should be defined at their first appearance in the text. SI units must be used throughout the manuscript. Scientific terminology and nomenclature should conform to internationally accepted standards and guidelines.

References

The journal follows the APA referencing style or a modified journal format. Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of all references. Inclusion of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) wherever available is strongly encouraged.

Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, including financial relationships, institutional affiliations, personal associations, or commercial interests. If no conflicts exist, authors should state: “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

Funding Statement

Authors should clearly identify all sources of financial support associated with the research. For example: “This research was supported by the National Research Foundation under Grant No. XXXXX.”

Author Contributions

Authors are encouraged to specify individual contributions using internationally recognized contributor role classifications whenever possible. These may include conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data analysis, writing – original draft, and writing – review and editing.

Supplementary Material

Authors may submit supplementary materials including additional datasets, experimental protocols, computational resources, videos, and extended figures or tables. Supplementary files should be clearly labeled and referenced appropriately within the manuscript.

Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous editorial and peer-review process, including initial editorial screening, plagiarism assessment, double-blind peer review by independent experts, and final editorial evaluation and decision. Possible editorial decisions include Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject.

Submission Process

Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal’s official online submission system or designated editorial communication channels. Authors are requested to submit the manuscript file, cover letter, figures and tables, and supplementary materials where applicable.

Cover Letter Requirements

The cover letter should include the manuscript title, article category, a brief statement describing the significance of the study, confirmation of originality, and confirmation that all authors have approved the submission.

Copyright and Licensing

Upon acceptance, authors may be required either to transfer copyright to the publisher or to publish the article under an open-access licensing agreement. Detailed information will be provided during the production process.

Research Data and Reproducibility

The journal encourages transparency and reproducibility in scientific research. Authors are encouraged to deposit datasets in publicly accessible repositories, provide accession numbers where applicable, and share computational codes, analytical workflows, and experimental protocols whenever possible.

Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI

Authors should disclose the use of artificial intelligence or generative AI tools when such tools have been used in the preparation of the manuscript or in research-related activities where disclosure is relevant. AI tools and generative AI systems should not be listed as authors.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scientific validity of their manuscript. Authors are also responsible for verifying AI-assisted content, appropriately citing sources, protecting confidential or sensitive information, and complying with applicable research and publication-ethics requirements. AI-generated text, images, data, references, or analyses must not be presented as independently verified scientific findings.

Originality, Plagiarism, and Duplicate Publication

All manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original. The journal does not permit plagiarism, inappropriate self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabrication or falsification of data, inappropriate manipulation of images or research results, unethical authorship practices, or citation manipulation.

Submitted manuscripts may be screened using appropriate similarity-detection and research-integrity tools. Where substantial or unexplained overlap is identified, the Editorial Office may request clarification from the authors or take further action in accordance with applicable publication-ethics and research-integrity standards.

Image Integrity

Images submitted for publication should accurately represent the underlying data. Authors must not manipulate images in a manner that introduces, removes, obscures, or alters information relevant to scientific interpretation.

Adjustments to brightness, contrast, colour, or other image properties may be acceptable when they are applied appropriately and consistently and do not misrepresent the underlying data. Such adjustments should be disclosed where appropriate. Editors may request original or unprocessed image data during the evaluation of a manuscript.

Preprints and Prior Dissemination

Authors should disclose whether the manuscript, or a substantially similar version of the work, has previously appeared as a preprint, conference contribution, thesis, repository deposit, or other publicly accessible form.

Posting a preprint does not necessarily prevent consideration by the journal, provided that the relevant journal policies, ethical requirements, and applicable copyright conditions are satisfied. Authors should disclose prior dissemination at the time of submission where required.

Peer Review

Submitted manuscripts are subject to editorial assessment and, where appropriate, external peer review. The editorial process may include initial editorial screening, assessment of scope and suitability, research-integrity and originality checks, peer review, editorial decision, revision where required, final acceptance, and production and publication.

The Editor-in-Chief and/or handling editors may decline manuscripts that fall outside the journal's scope, do not meet minimum scientific or ethical standards, or are otherwise unsuitable for publication. The journal may use a double-anonymous or another appropriate peer-review model, as determined by the Editorial Office.

Revisions

When a manuscript is returned for revision, authors should submit a revised manuscript together with a detailed response to the reviewers' comments. Where requested, authors should also provide a marked or tracked-changes version and a clean version of the revised manuscript.

Responses should address each reviewer comment clearly and indicate where corresponding changes have been made. If authors disagree with a reviewer comment, they should provide a reasoned scientific explanation supported by appropriate evidence.

Manuscript Withdrawal

Authors who wish to withdraw a manuscript should contact the Editorial Office. Once a manuscript has entered an advanced stage of peer review, editorial processing, or production, withdrawal may require an explanation and may be subject to the journal's applicable publication policies.

Withdrawal must not be used for the purpose of simultaneously submitting the same manuscript to another journal.

Corrections and Retractions

The journal may publish corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, or other appropriate notices when significant errors, inaccuracies, or research-integrity issues are identified before or after publication.

Authors are expected to cooperate fully with the Editorial Office in investigating and correcting significant errors discovered in published work.

Copyright and Publishing Rights

Authors are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary rights to submit and publish all text, figures, tables, datasets, images, and other material included in their manuscript. Where third-party material is used, authors are responsible for obtaining permission when required and for providing appropriate acknowledgement.

The applicable copyright, licensing, and publishing terms will be communicated to authors during the publication process and will apply according to the journal's current publishing policy.

Language and Copyediting

Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are written in clear, coherent, and understandable English. Manuscripts requiring substantial language improvement may be returned to the authors for revision or may require language-editing services before further processing.

Language editing or proofreading does not guarantee acceptance of a manuscript. Authors remain responsible for the scientific content, accuracy, and presentation of their work.

Submission Checklist

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should ensure that the manuscript falls within the scope of Chem Bio Molecules and has not been submitted to another journal. All authors should have approved the manuscript and agreed to its submission. The title should be clear and informative, and the manuscript should contain an appropriate Abstract and relevant keywords.

Authors should verify that all figures and tables are properly numbered, cited, and presented in an appropriate format and that all references are complete, accurate, and consistently formatted. Ethical approval and informed consent should be reported where applicable. Conflict of interest, funding, author contributions, and data availability statements should be included where required. Any use of AI or generative AI should be disclosed where applicable.

Authors should also ensure that all necessary permissions for third-party material have been obtained, that the manuscript has been checked for spelling, grammar, and formatting, that all supplementary files have been correctly identified, and that the corresponding author's contact information is complete.
